Venice and cinema in Dorsoduro

Venice is a city with a strong cinematic vocation and not only as a romantic “location” or for breathtaking chases through the canals. In 1932 the first film festival in history was invented on the Lido, in 1942 the first film establishment was established in Giudecca, and from 1943 Cinecittà moved to the Lagoon between Giudecca and the Biennale pavilions at the Giardini while Istituto Luce settled in Palazzo Bonvecchiati, the Biennale pavilions.

Thus was born the cinevillage or cine island.

Proposed itinerary

The tour begins at the Railway Station with two celebrated Italian films: Bread and Tulips (Silvio Soldini, 1999) and. Venice, the moon and you (Dino Risi, 1958) and continues to Piazzale Roma and the Rio dei Tre Ponti. Only as we go deeper into the sestiere will we see where part of the chase from the films was made 007 Moonraker (Lewis Gilber, 1979) and The Italian Job (F. Gary Gray, 2003).

We will cross paths with Indiana Jones (Steven Spielberg, 1989) and Katharine Hepburn (Summer Time, David Lean, 1955) in Camp St. Barnabas, without forgetting Woody Allen in Everyone says I love you (1996).

The tour allows you to look through cinematic eyes at Venice and, at the same time, rediscover churches, calli and campielli; the walk ends in front of the Basilica della Salute.
